Sequans Communications, a leading provider of 5G and 4G chips and modules for IoT, has announced its latest product line, the Taurus portfolio, which includes chipsets for chip-on-board designs, carrier-certified modules in various form factors, and module reference designs for customized modules.

While most IoT applications can function with low data rates, some require higher data throughput. The Taurus 5G NR SoC platform from Sequans is designed to handle data rates of up to 2 Gb/sec, making it suitable for high-bandwidth IoT devices, portable hotspots, mobile computing systems, private networks, and fixed-wireless access routers.

According to Sequans, the Taurus 5G NR has been optimized for high-bandwidth IoT applications. With a dual-core application processor, the Taurus 5G NR can be embedded into products that require data processing close to the network edge, thus minimizing latency. Supporting 3GPP Release 17, the Taurus 5G NR falls back to 4G LTE where there is no 5G coverage, and then switches back to 5G when within range.

Covering the FR1 band, from 600 MHz to 7125 MHz, the module supports standalone and non-standalone 5G with carrier aggregation. Additionally, the Taurus 5G NR module includes wired ports such as USB, PCIe, and Serial Gigabit Media Independent Interface (XSGMII) at speeds ranging from 10/100/1000 Mbit/sec over Ethernet.

The Taurus product portfolio from Sequans seems to address the demand for high-speed IoT applications, enabling the delivery of innovative IoT solutions. Commenting on this, Georges Karam, Sequans’ CEO said, “Our Taurus product family makes it possible for device makers to achieve unprecedented data throughput in the most demanding IoT applications while leveraging the benefits of low-power, wide-area 5G technology. We are delighted with the industry response we have received to the introduction of Taurus and look forward to supporting the next wave of IoT innovation with our ever-expanding massive IoT product portfolio.”

Sequans is further cementing its position as a leading wireless IoT technology provider through the Taurus product line. The company has made waves in the industry in recent years with its impressive array of 5G and 4G chips and modules. The Taurus line is another step forward for Sequans, indicating that the company is committed to delivering IoT technology products that meet the demands of a vast array of IoT applications.

“With the Taurus product line, Sequans is adding a new high-speed, high-bandwidth IoT solution to its already extensive portfolio of 5G and 4G chips and modules,” said the company’s vice president of marketing, Bertrand Debray. “Our goal is to provide the best possible solution for each IoT application’s specific needs, and the Taurus line underscores our commitment to offering products with unprecedented performance, functionality, and power efficiency.”

With the Taurus product family, Sequans Communications is paving the way for a new generation of high-speed, high-bandwidth IoT solutions. This innovation will have far-reaching implications, helping to drive the growth of economic sectors that are deploying IoT applications, including the oil and gas industry, manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics. The plan is to deploy Taurus 5G NR SoC chips in IoT applications that require faster, more robust data connections, thus enabling the delivery of next-level IoT innovations.5g nr chipset platform targets wireless broadband iot
