Fashion’s obsession with the ’90s is stronger as ever, but now, we’re not stalking the Instagirls’ many iterations of chokers and platform flip-flops; instead, we’re paying homage to Sporty Spice with this limited-edition collection of carryalls.
Urban Outfitters has teamed up with Kipling to bring your ’90s school-girl back to life — crinkle nylon fabric, monkey keychain and all. On Monday, the lifestyle retailer and European handbag brand will launch waist packs, day packs, small backpacks and duffles pulled straight from Kipling’s “Clueless”-era archives. This collaboration will mark the first installment in a series of capsule collections designed in partnership with Urban Outfitters.
“After looking into our archives 30 years back, we discovered the bags to be just as timeless, modern and relevant as the first day they were introduced,” Christine Lee, Kipling’s head of design, in a press statement. “Keeping this collection in its original form takes us all on a Kipling journey of authenticity and nostalgia.”
Urban Outfitters has a history with throwback collaborations — specifically, ’90s-tinged ones — which helped make this chunky backpack partnership a natural fit. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Urban Outfitters,” said Julie Dimperio, President of Kipling ,in the press release. “Their recent string of nostalgic collaborations has struck a chord with their customers’ appreciation of heritage brands, which is something that truly appealed to us.”
The bags will be available online on UrbanOutfitters.com and in Urban Outfitters’ 200 stores nationwide beginning on Monday with princes ranging from $59 to $119.
Each silhouette is a glorious recreation of Kipling’s sporty-cool designs and features its iconic contrast logo and pronounced zippers, as well as your furry friend.
