Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon has praised Petr Cech as one of the great goalkeepers he has played against. Buffon, who currently plays for Serie B side Parma, said that Cech was very strong during his professional career. The former Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain player declined to label himself the greatest goalkeeper ever, saying that there have been many strong players in his position over the years, although he did describe Cech as being “really strong” and one of the best ever.

Cech, who played for Chelsea from 2004 to 2015, made 494 appearances for the club and kept 228 clean sheets. He played a key role in Chelsea’s successful 2011-12 UEFA Champions League campaign and won several Premier League titles during his time in England. One of the defining moments of his career came during the Champions League final against Bayern Munich when he saved Arjen Robben’s penalty in extra time to help Chelsea to victory.

Since retiring from playing in 2019, Cech has taken on the role of technical and performance advisor at Chelsea and has also been registered as an emergency goalkeeper. In October 2020, he made a surprise appearance on the bench during Chelsea’s Premier League game against Southampton, sparking speculation that he might be named in the starting line-up, although this did not happen.

Buffon’s comments about Cech are a testament to the Czech goalkeeper’s enduring quality and reputation as one of the game’s greats. Despite his retirement, Cech’s legacy lives on at Chelsea and in English football, where he is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation.
