Levi Colwill, the highly regarded 20-year-old football sensation, has become the center of attention due to the delay in signing his contract extension with Chelsea. This contractual situation has piqued the interest of English Premier League rivals Liverpool and Brighton, who are closely monitoring the opportunity to secure his services.

After an outstanding breakout season on loan at Brighton, Levi Colwill recently celebrated a victory at the Under 21 Euros. As mentioned previously, Chelsea has received several bids for Colwill, including a substantial £30 million offer from Brighton. However, the bid was promptly rejected by Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, who expressed his desire to retain the rising star at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has emerged as one of the top contenders for Colwill’s signature. The Reds have been facing defensive challenges, with key players like Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip struggling due to injuries. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on strengthening the team’s defense, and acquiring a talented center-back like Colwill would be a significant boost.

Klopp has been considering a tactical shift, aiming to transition Trent Alexander-Arnold into a midfield role, leading to a formation change from the traditional 4-3-3 to a 3-2-2-3 system. This strategic adjustment requires a reinforcement of three central defenders. Similar strategies were effectively employed by Arsenal and Manchester City in the previous season.

Van Dijk, Liverpool’s defensive stalwart, is certain to secure one of the starting center-back positions. Another name likely to make the starting eleven is the promising Ibrahima Konate, who has showcased notable improvement since his arrival at Anfield. However, given the current circumstances, it is highly unlikely that Joe Gomez or Joel Matip would secure a starting role if Klopp adopts the new formation. Therefore, Klopp needs a strong left-sided center-back to complete his defensive line.

Levi Colwill’s potential move to Liverpool is especially enticing for several reasons. Firstly, he is a homegrown talent, a factor highly valued by Liverpool, which could prove beneficial if they decide to offload Joe Gomez. Secondly, Colwill’s preferred position as a left-sided center-back aligns perfectly with Klopp’s tactical requirements.

Nevertheless, Chelsea is reluctant to let go of another academy prodigy, reminiscent of the situation with Mason Mount. Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has engaged in talks with Colwill about his position in the team and the potential playing time he could receive. While Colwill has yet to secure a major role at Chelsea, he is inclined to stay at his boyhood club if he can be assured of sufficient game time.

Competition for Colwill’s position at Chelsea has intensified, with the recent acquisition of Benoit Badiashile from Monaco for £13 million. Badiashile’s arrival presents a tough challenge for Colwill, raising the stakes for him to prove himself.

Liverpool’s interest in a left-sided center-back aligns with Colwill’s strengths and the team’s defensive needs. Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson often ventures forward, leaving the defense vulnerable with only two defenders. This tactical vulnerability has resulted in Liverpool conceding numerous goals. Colwill’s potential move to Liverpool would not only provide much-needed reinforcement but also offer defensive stability and balance.

While Colwill’s future destination remains uncertain, it would not be a surprise if Chelsea tempts him with a lucrative contract extension. At present, any associations linking Colwill to Liverpool seem faint. However, intriguingly, there are pictures of a young Levi wearing the Liverpool badge, indicating a potential sentimental attachment to the club. Additionally, Brighton, under the guidance of manager Roberto de Zerbi, is building an exciting project that Colwill has already experienced. This implies that Liverpool may rank third in the race to secure Colwill’s future, behind Chelsea and Brighton.
