Tragedy struck in Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on Friday when two motorcycle riders collided and died on the spot while accompanying a hearse home from a mortuary for interment.
Eyewitnesses told Southern City News that the incident occurred at the boundary between Eziome Mbieri and Amaolu Mbieri communities, a few metres away from the home of the deceased, Mr. George Eke.
One of the sources said some motorcyclists had accompanied the bereaved family to the mortuary to convey the corpse home for a requiem mass before his remains would be buried.
“As we were coming home, some motorcyclists who had followed us to the morgue started the ‘traditional’ display of expertise with their motorcycles as a way of celebrating the dead.”
