In a significant appeal to the public, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West have called for calm, urging Nigerians to refrain from turning the region into a battleground. This plea comes in the wake of growing unrest and dissatisfaction with the current socio-economic climate in the country.

The emergency meeting, held in Akure, Ondo State, gathered key members of the South West Executive Committee, who collectively voiced their concerns over the potential for violence and disruption in the region. The leaders emphasized the importance of patience and understanding as Nigeria navigates through its current hardships.

Isaac Kekemeke, the National Vice Chairman and Chairman of the South West, along with zonal secretary Vincent Bewaji, issued a formal communiqué outlining the party’s position. They stressed that while citizens have the constitutional right to peaceful protest, it is crucial to ensure that these expressions of dissent do not escalate into violence or chaos.

“We recognize the frustrations many Nigerians are feeling right now,” Kekemeke stated. “However, we must remember that our South West region should not become a theatre of war or a hub for criminal activities. We must work together to maintain peace and order.”

The APC leaders urged all South Westerners, both within Nigeria and abroad, to stand united against any attempts to incite violence. They acknowledged the economic challenges facing the nation but reassured citizens that these difficulties are temporary and that brighter days are ahead.

The communiqué highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to address the economic issues plaguing the country. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has already embarked on substantial reforms aimed at revamping Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape,” the statement read. “We are committed to steering the nation towards prosperity and abundance for all.”

Despite the current hardships, the APC leaders expressed optimism about the future, encouraging citizens to remain hopeful. They believe that with collective patience and resilience, Nigeria will emerge stronger from its current challenges.

The call for peace comes at a critical time when many Nigerians are expressing their frustrations through protests and demonstrations. The APC leaders emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement with the government rather than resorting to violence.

“Protests can be a powerful tool for change when conducted peacefully,” Bewaji added. “But we must ensure that our voices are heard without resorting to actions that could harm our communities or disrupt our way of life.”

In conclusion, the APC’s appeal for peace in the South West serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue and patience in times of adversity. The leaders’ message resonates with many Nigerians who are yearning for stability and progress. As the nation continues to grapple with economic difficulties, the hope is that with collective efforts, Nigeria can move towards a more prosperous and peaceful future.
