Whitney Has Been Pining for This Blouse Since March

The fashion calendar is a weird thing that traditionally shows clothing months before it will actually be available for purchase. One of the critiques of this system is that people don’t want to see things they like and then wait months to buy them, which is why “see now, buy now” became a thing. And while that totally makes sense on a lot of levels, I recently experienced the old-fashioned anticipation that goes with seeing an item of clothing in a press kit months before it would be shoppable and falling in love with it so much that I actually remembered it and thought about it in the meantime.

St. Roche’s Emily blouse is the piece in question, and I think it’s perfect for a number of reasons. First, because it’s surprisingly versatile from a style perspective. The frills and pussybow tie could read very girly-girl tucked into a high-waisted skirt, but I love that it could easily get the Prince glam-rock treatment with some crazy pants, ankle boots and vampy makeup. My first choice, though, would be to layer it under overalls with some colorful statement shoes. The second reason this blouse feels perfect right now is because the off-white color and cotton fabric make it a good fit for these last weeks of summer, but the long sleeves and high neck would also make it a great layering piece come fall. One last reason I’m all about this blouse? It’s made by a brand that champions ethical and sustainable manufacturing through artisan relationships in Peru and India. Thank heavens this baby is finally available for purchase.
