While Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers were in quarantine, most attention was aimed toward Hammer’s behavior. Just as coronavirus-related shutdowns affected the country in March 2020, Hammer was spotted reciting the poem “Valentine” by Wendy Cope in New York City’s Central Park,

By mid-April, the actor posted a new look that left many fans scratching their heads — and wondering what was going on inside of Hammer’s. Hammer did away with his usual smooth hair and shared a new selfie featuring a mohawk and a peculiar mustache. Completing the strange look was a fringed crop top.

Five days after his wedding anniversary in May 2020, a mustachioed Hammer emerged shirtless in an Instagram video on a golf course while chugging a beer that he captioned, “When the world is ending but you already have come to terms with the fact that this current time is ruled by chaos…”

Fans were worried about Hammer at the time, and the news of his and Chambers’ separation certainly came out of left field. However, it’s unclear how long the couple’s separation has been in the works. The pair are keeping things private.

“We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time,” Hammer wrote on Instagram.

As the couple embarks on their separation, they’re focusing on their two children, Harper and Ford,
