“Real Housewives of Atlanta” Star Marlo Hampton Celebrates 3 Years as a Mother Figure to Nephews Amidst Sister’s Struggles with Mental Illness and the Law

Marlo Hampton, known for her role in the hit reality show “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” recently celebrated a milestone with her two nephews, Michael and William. On April 4th, Hampton took to Instagram to share that it had been three years since they became a live-in family.

Hampton has been a mother figure to Michael and William since 2019 when her sister, who has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, could not care for them. In an interview with the New York Post in November of that year, Hampton revealed that her nephew had called her crying, asking her to come to get him and his brother because “the people are coming to take my mom.”

Since then, Hampton has been taking care of her nephews full-time, and she couldn’t be happier. In her Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Michael and William, you came into my life full time 3 years ago and changed it for the better. I do not regret a thing! Here’s to 3 more and a lifetime beyond!”

However, Hampton’s sister’s struggles with the law have made things difficult for the family. In 2018, she was arrested after running a stop sign and refusing to pull over for the police. She was eventually apprehended at a red light. Then, in 2021, she was arrested again for an outstanding warrant and was released on bond but failed to show up at the court hearing.

After a psychological evaluation, the court determined that Hampton’s sister was incompetent to stand trial, and she was released. The current status of her sister is unclear, but Hampton has been providing updates to her fans on her role as her nephews’ “muntie.”

As a 20-year-old female news writer, I can’t help but feel inspired by Hampton’s strength and resilience in the face of adversity. She has taken on the responsibility of caring for her nephews without hesitation, and her love for them shines through in everything she does.

Hampton’s story is a reminder of the challenges that families face when dealing with mental illness and the importance of having a strong support system. It’s also a testament to the power of love and the bonds that can form between family members, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
