Stephanie Shor Talks Love for Acting and #MCUMarathon #StephanieShor

Miriam Shor, best known for her role as Diana Trout in the TV series Younger, has undergone a transformation for her latest role as Recorder Vim in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Shor plays the right hand of the film’s biggest villain, the High Evolutionary, and is unrecognizable in her prosthetics and bald cap. However, the actress is no stranger to long hours in the makeup chair, having spent up to three hours on previous projects. “If I’m gonna spend three hours in a makeup chair, I’d rather walk out as a creature from somewhere a billion light years away from here than just like a believable female,” Shor said.

Shor’s dedication to her craft is evident in her love for acting, which allows her to explore different worlds and personas. “The alchemy that happens when you sit in a mirror and you look at yourself and a different person looks back at you is remarkable. It’s a thrill. It changes your mindset. It changes how you walk through the world,” she explained.

Shor is also a self-proclaimed sci-fi nerd, having watched all 32 Marvel Cinematic Universe films with her daughters during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The experience was not only a bonding moment for the family but also led to an unexpected call from Marvel, offering her a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Being part of a franchise that her daughters love was “pretty special” for Shor, who also enjoyed working with her fellow actors, including Bradley Cooper. The two will reunite in Maestro, Cooper’s upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic. Shor will play Cynthia O’Neal, who was close to the Bernsteins, particularly Felicia, Leonard’s wife.

Shor is also set to star in a still-untitled project directed by Cord Jefferson and starring Jeffrey Wright. Despite her busy schedule, Shor would happily revisit her role as Diana Trout in a Younger reunion. “There’s always more to say about the publishing industry than we scratched the surface on, and this character really resonated with a lot of people. And with me, I learned a lot playing Diana Trout, so absolutely,” she said.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in theaters, giving audiences a chance to see Shor’s transformation into Recorder Vim.

Actress Stephanie Shor has opened up about her love for acting and her recent experience watching all 32 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies with her daughters during the COVID-19 pandemic, in an interview with Us Weekly.

Shor, who is known for her role in the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, said that she loves acting because it allows her to dive into a different world that is not her own. She explained that she is not interested in playing herself over and over again and that the thrill of seeing a different person looking back at her in the mirror is remarkable.

In addition to her love for acting, Shor is also a self-proclaimed sci-fi nerd and was excited to watch all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies with her daughters, Ruby and Iris. The trio watched every single movie in chronological order, starting with 2008’s Iron Man and finishing with the most recent releases.

The experience was unforgettable for Shor, not only because she was bonding with her girls, but also because of the surprise call she received from Marvel shortly after finishing the franchise’s entire roster. Shor said that the conversations she had with her daughters about the movies were shockingly profound and fun.

“We finished watching the final one, and two weeks later, I get a call [asking if I’m] interested in Guardians of the Galaxy,” Shor told Us.

Shor’s love for sci-fi and fantasy is not limited to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She said that she has always been interested in all areas of the art world, including literature and film.

The three-hour process of transforming into a character for a role is also something that Shor enjoys. She said that the alchemy that happens when she looks at herself in the mirror and sees a different person looking back is a thrill that changes her mindset and how she walks through the world.
