Miriam Shor, best known for her role as Diana Trout in the TV series Younger, has undergone a transformation for her latest role as Recorder Vim in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Shor plays the right hand of the film’s biggest villain, the High Evolutionary, and is unrecognizable in her prosthetics and bald cap. However, the actress is no stranger to long hours in the makeup chair, having spent up to three hours on previous projects. “If I’m gonna spend three hours in a makeup chair, I’d rather walk out as a creature from somewhere a billion light years away from here than just like a believable female,” Shor said.
Shor’s dedication to her craft is evident in her love for acting, which allows her to explore different worlds and personas. “The alchemy that happens when you sit in a mirror and you look at yourself and a different person looks back at you is remarkable. It’s a thrill. It changes your mindset. It changes how you walk through the world,” she explained.
Shor is also a self-proclaimed sci-fi nerd, having watched all 32 Marvel Cinematic Universe films with her daughters during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The experience was not only a bonding moment for the family but also led to an unexpected call from Marvel, offering her a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Being part of a franchise that her daughters love was “pretty special” for Shor, who also enjoyed working with her fellow actors, including Bradley Cooper. The two will reunite in Maestro, Cooper’s upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic. Shor will play Cynthia O’Neal, who was close to the Bernsteins, particularly Felicia, Leonard’s wife.
Shor is also set to star in a still-untitled project directed by Cord Jefferson and starring Jeffrey Wright. Despite her busy schedule, Shor would happily revisit her role as Diana Trout in a Younger reunion. “There’s always more to say about the publishing industry than we scratched the surface on, and this character really resonated with a lot of people. And with me, I learned a lot playing Diana Trout, so absolutely,” she said.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in theaters, giving audiences a chance to see Shor’s transformation into Recorder Vim.
