In a bold and uncompromising statement, veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has taken to social media to issue a stern warning to her colleagues in the industry regarding their lifestyle choices.

Taking to her Instagram page on Wednesday, the 22-year veteran of the Nigerian film industry did not mince her words as she cautioned those who engage in excessive smoking and drinking that they should not expect any financial support from her if they develop health challenges as a result of their unhealthy habits.

Edochie’s post, which has since garnered significant attention and sparked a heated debate among fans and industry insiders, has shone a spotlight on the issue of unhealthy lifestyles in Nollywood.

In her post, Edochie expressed her frustration with those who continue to disregard the well-documented dangers of smoking and excessive drinking, despite the numerous warnings and health advisories that are readily available.

“All these people that are playing with their lives anyhow, smoking and drinking beyond control. When you start having health challenges, I won’t contribute shi shi,” she wrote.

The actress went on to emphasize the importance of taking care of vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, liver, and lungs, and warned that those who neglect their health should not expect sympathy or financial assistance from her.

“The kidney, heart, liver and lungs are very delicate organs in the human body and should be properly taken care of. So if any of you play with your organs, don’t come to my DM or comment section to solicit for money,” she added.

Edochie also referenced the warnings issued by the Federal Ministry of Health, which clearly state that smokers are at a higher risk of premature death, and criticized those who continue to ignore these warnings and then seek support after damaging their bodies.

“Even the Federal Ministry of Health keeps warning that smokers are liable to die young. It is boldly written on the packet. And you will be soliciting support after damaging your body. I no go give one kobo ooo,” she declared.

The actress’s impassioned plea for her colleagues to prioritize their health and well-being has sparked a wave of reactions from fans and industry insiders, with many expressing their support for her stance while others have criticized her for being unsympathetic.

It remains to be seen whether Edochie’s bold stance will prompt a shift in attitudes and behaviors within Nollywood, but one thing is certain: her message has certainly struck a chord and ignited a much-needed conversation about the importance of making healthy choices.

In the meantime, Edochie’s warning stands as a powerful reminder that good health is the greatest wealth of all, and that no amount of fame or fortune can replace the value of a healthy and vibrant life.
