Dremo Explains Why He Left DMW and Chose to Go Independent

The Dremo DMW exit story is one that, maybe, a lot of fans saw coming—but didn’t fully understand until now. When Dremo finally spoke about his decision to leave Davido Music Worldwide, it didn’t sound dramatic or emotional. If anything, it felt… reflective. Like someone looking back and trying to make sense of what didn’t quite work.

In a recent interview, he opened up about his time in the label and why he eventually stepped away. And from what he said, the issue wasn’t just one thing. It was more of a pattern.

A Label Built Around One Star

According to Dremo, one of the main challenges was how much attention was placed on Davido himself.

Now, to be fair, Davido is the face of the label. That’s not surprising. Most record labels revolve around a major artist, especially when that artist is also the founder.

But Dremo seemed to suggest that this focus went a bit too far.

He explained that the management’s attention stayed mostly on Davido, leaving other artists to figure things out on their own. And when you think about it, that kind of setup can be tough. Everyone is trying to grow, but the spotlight isn’t exactly shared.

Maybe it works for some artists. Maybe others need something different.

Missed Collaborations and Limited Growth

One of the more interesting points Dremo mentioned was the lack of collaboration within the label itself.

You would expect artists under the same label to work together often, right? It seems natural. But according to him, that didn’t really happen.

He even pointed out that he didn’t collaborate with fellow label mate Idowest at the time. Not because they didn’t want to, but because everyone was focused on surviving individually.

That part stands out a bit.

Instead of building a strong group identity, it sounds like each artist was trying to stay afloat on their own. And without joint projects—like a label album, which he said never happened—it becomes harder to create that sense of unity.

“It Was More of a Platform”

Another thing Dremo made clear was that DMW didn’t meet his expectations, especially financially.

He described the label more as a platform than a source of direct support. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. Some artists just need exposure and opportunities.

But in his case, it seems like he expected more structure, maybe more backing.

“I didn’t get what I wanted from the label,” he said.

Choosing the Independent Route

After leaving DMW, Dremo decided to go independent. And honestly, that choice makes sense when you hear his reasons.

For someone who felt limited in a label system, that freedom might be exactly what they need.

It also reflects a broader trend in the music industry. More artists are choosing independence, even if it means taking on more responsibility themselves.

Maybe it’s not easier. But for some, it feels more honest.

What’s interesting about Dremo’s comments is that they don’t come across as bitter.

He didn’t attack the label or dismiss his time there completely. Instead, it felt more like he was explaining his experience—what worked, what didn’t, and why he moved on.
