Afrobeats star Davido has been credited by his sister, Sharon Adeleke, with reshaping how Nigerian artists present success — especially through luxury, flashy fashion, and a “crew lifestyle” culture.

Speaking during a live Apple Music Radio takeover marking Davido’s 15 years in the music industry, Sharon claimed the singer helped normalize extravagance in Nigerian entertainment.

“He made being flashy cool” — Sharon Adeleke

Sharon said Davido helped change the perception of success in Nigerian music:

“I think that David is one of the people that started all this being flashy and showing off and making it cool, in Nigeria.”

She added that before his rise, the industry wasn’t as openly expressive with wealth, branding, and lifestyle display.

Davido responded by referencing earlier Nigerian music movements, especially Don Jazzy and D’banj under the Mo’Hits label.

He explained that while Mo’Hits popularized strong crew energy in Nigeria, he took inspiration from how American stars build entourages around their success.

Sharon, however, insisted Davido took it further:

Despite the praise, Davido has consistently credited Mo’Hits as a major influence on his career.

He has previously shared that seeing their success — and even spending time around their mansion — inspired his early music ambition after defying his father’s wish for him not to pursue music.

A shift in Afrobeats culture

Today, Davido is known not just for hits but for a larger-than-life brand — including luxury cars, international collaborations, and a visible entourage often referred to as his “30BG” circle.

Whether viewed as innovation or evolution, Sharon Adeleke’s comments highlight how Davido’s image helped shape a new era in Nigerian pop culture — where success is not just achieved, but loudly displayed.
