In a display of unwavering integrity and commitment to upholding the law, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a military special task force dedicated to maintaining peace in Plateau, as well as parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, recently made headlines for their refusal to succumb to corruption. The courageous actions of these troops not only thwarted the illegal activities of suspected cattle rustlers but also sent a powerful message that justice and honor stand above all.

Capt. James Oya, the Media Officer of OPSH, revealed the inspiring incident in a statement released on Wednesday in Jos, shedding light on the remarkable valor displayed by the troops in the face of temptation. According to Oya, the troops, stationed at Sector Four, not only turned down a hefty N1.5 million bribe from the alleged rustlers but also apprehended the perpetrators who attempted to compromise their integrity with the illicit offer.

The commendable actions of the eight operatives who stood firm against corruption were met with praise and recognition from the commander of the operation, Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar. Maj.-Gen. Abubakar, impressed by the unwavering dedication of his troops, wasted no time in rewarding the brave soldiers for their exemplary conduct, setting a standard of integrity and valor for others to follow.

The incident unfolded when the vigilant personnel deployed at OPSH Sector Four intercepted a group of rustled cows at a checkpoint near Bisichi in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The cattle, identified as belonging to Shehu Umar and stolen from Mangu, were en route to an undisclosed location when they were intercepted by the diligent troops during a routine stop and search operation.

The two suspects, identified as Anas Usman, aged 20, and Gyang Cholly, aged 42, made a desperate attempt to bribe the troops in a bid to secure safe passage for the stolen cattle. However, the troops, unwavering in their commitment to upholding the law, swiftly rejected the monetary offer and instead took the suspects into custody, along with the bribe money, ensuring that justice prevailed over corruption.

Capt. Oya highlighted the commander’s words of appreciation for the troops, lauding their courage and integrity in the face of adversity. Maj.-Gen. Abubakar’s commendation served as a reminder to all security personnel of the paramount importance of safeguarding lives and property, and the significant role they play in maintaining law and order within the state.

The valorous actions of the troops of Operation Safe Haven not only demonstrate their unwavering commitment to upholding justice but also serve as a beacon of hope for the community, instilling confidence in the populace that law enforcement agencies are dedicated to protecting their interests and ensuring peace and security prevail.
