In a historic move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass Kingdom of Bayelsa State, His Eminence, King Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff, Seriya II, as the Chancellor of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), located in Okerenkoko, in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. This announcement came as part of the institution’s maiden convocation ceremony on its campus.
Representing President Tinubu at the event was the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo. The appointment of King Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff as Chancellor is a significant step towards the transformation of NMU into a leading institution in the world.
The convocation ceremony also saw the university conferring a Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Honoris Causa) on ex-militant leader, High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
