Former Olympics silver medalist Blessing Oborodudu emerged victorious in the 68kg category, securing her ticket to the All Africa Games after defeating Tokere Appah of Bayelsa State via pinfall. Ebi Biogos of Bayelsa and Hannah Reuben of the Nigerian Army also triumphed in the 72kg and 76kg categories, respectively, showcasing their prowess on the mat.
The male freestyle division witnessed intense battles, with Soso Tamarau of Delta and Ashton Mutuwa of Plateau causing upsets in the 97kg and 125kg weight classes. Mutuwa’s victory over national champion Progress Benson of Rivers not only secured his qualification for the African Games but also earned him a ticket to the Olympic qualifiers.

Harrison Israel of Bayelsa delivered a stunning performance in the 86kg category, thwarting the aspirations of Jackson Oluwafemi of Ondo, a national champion. Stephen Simon of Bayelsa emerged triumphant in the 65kg category, defeating former national champion Amas Daniel of Bayelsa, while Enozumini Simon of Edo showcased his prowess by securing a slot at the African Games in the 57kg category.
The All African Games, set to take place in Accra, Ghana, from March 8 to 24, 2024, promises to be a thrilling showcase of athleticism and sportsmanship. Following this, the first Olympic qualifiers of the year will be held in Alexandria, Egypt, from March 12 to 20, offering wrestlers the opportunity to compete on the global stage.
