Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has fired back at manager Pep Guardiola, accusing him of spreading lies and calling the club “ungrateful” in a recent interview with A’Bola.
Guardiola had previously claimed that Cancelo was allowed to leave the club due to his poor reaction to being dropped from the starting lineup. However, Cancelo has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that he has always been a committed and dedicated player for Manchester City.
The Portugal international, who spent time on loan at Bayern Munich before joining Barcelona in the summer, expressed his frustration with Guardiola’s comments, saying, “Lies were told! I’ve never been a bad teammate for them and you can ask either Ake or Rico. I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion.”
Cancelo went on to defend his time at Manchester City, claiming that he was an integral part of the team during his tenure at the club. He stated, “I stayed because it’s not true. I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything.”
The defender’s comments have sparked controversy among fans and pundits alike, with many questioning Guardiola’s decision to let Cancelo leave the club. Some have even suggested that there may be underlying tensions between the player and the manager that have yet to be revealed.
