CNN has officially announced that they are cutting ties with former “Don Lemon Tonight” host, Don Lemon, after nearly a decade of hosting his own primetime segment. The decision came as a shock to many, as Lemon had been with the network since 2006. The move follows allegations of volatile and misogynistic behavior made by inside sources within the network.
Variety reports that Lemon’s alleged misconduct included body-shaming a producer and sending threatening texts to fellow correspondent Kyra Phillips over her getting an assignment over him. Lemon has denied these allegations, but his fall from grace was swift, with CNN terminating his contract in April 2023.

This wasn’t the first time Lemon had come under scrutiny for his behavior. Back in February, he made a controversial comment about Presidential candidate Nikki Haley, stating she wasn’t in her prime. Many deemed this comment sexist, and Lemon later backtracked his statement, acknowledging that it was “inartful and irrelevant.”
Lemon took to Twitter to publicly respond to his firing, stating that he was stunned and that “at no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network.” CNN, however, pushed back on his claim, deeming it “inaccurate” and revealing that Lemon had been offered the opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.

The news of Lemon’s firing has shaken the media world, with many questioning what his next move will be. However, it has also sparked important discussions about accountability and the need for workplaces to prioritize a safe and respectful environment for all employees.
As a prominent figure in the media world, Don Lemon’s fall from grace serves as a reminder that no one is above reproach, and that accountability must be taken seriously. CNN’s decision to cut ties with him signifies the network’s commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for its employees, and to setting an example for others in the industry to follow.
