Beloved Nollywood Star, Mr Ibu, to be Laid to Rest in Grand Ceremony

The passing of a beloved icon is always a moment of deep reflection and remembrance. Such is the case with the late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, whose family has now announced the details of his grand burial ceremony.

The iconic actor’s journey to the final resting place began with a challenging battle against an undisclosed illness, which ultimately led to the amputation of his leg a few months ago. Despite this adversity, Mr Ibu’s spirit remained unyielding, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his fans and loved ones.

In a poignant statement jointly signed by Ibu’s brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, the family revealed that the late actor will be laid to rest in his hometown of Amuri, located in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. The family expressed their desire to honor Mr Ibu’s memory in a manner befitting a true hero and legend.

“The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honor the loving memory of our hero and a legend John Ikechukwu Okafor who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness,” the statement read.

The family extended a heartfelt invitation to all who have been touched by Mr Ibu’s life and work, urging them to join in commemorating his legacy during the 5-day burial ceremony, which is set to commence on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024.

The ceremony will kick off with a high-profile novelty match, a fitting tribute to Mr Ibu’s larger-than-life persona, on June 25th. This will be followed by a special event dubbed “Mr Ibu’s Night” on Wednesday, June 26th, featuring a moving candlelight procession and live entertainment to celebrate the enduring impact of the beloved actor.

On June 27th, a Christian Wake will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, as a time for reflection and spiritual solace. Finally, the funeral service will take place on June 28th, marking the culmination of the ceremonial proceedings.

The 5-day event will draw to a close on Sunday, June 30th, with a Church Thanksgiving, providing an opportunity for family members, friends, and well-wishers to come together in gratitude for the life and legacy of Mr Ibu.

As the world prepares to bid farewell to a cherished luminary, the outpouring of love and support from fans and the entertainment community continues to underscore the profound impact of Mr Ibu’s contributions to Nollywood and beyond.
