Martin O’Neill has signed a contract extension to remain Republic of Ireland manager until 2020.

The extension also includes O’Neill’s management team which assistant Roy Keane is part of.

O’Neill will oversee the team for the UEFA Nations League – the draw for which takes place on Wednesday- and the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

The Football Association of Ireland announced the news on their official Twitter account on Tuesday.

O’Neill had been among the candidates to succeed Mark Hughes as Stoke City boss prior to their appointment of Paul Lambert.

After Ireland failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, O’Neill admitted he was considering his future despite having previously verbally agreed to a new deal.

The 65-year-old took charge of Ireland in 2013, replacing Giovanni Trapattoni, and has led them to one major tournament.
