Have we got something fun for you guys… Today’s lush + bohemian editorial at The Hangar at Stanley in Denver came together when designer + planner Adina Michelle Events called upon all of her creative vendor friends. The idea: raw and industrial, modern, bohemian, and lots of greenery. Adina tells us I wanted it to feel as though you were in a trendy flower shop with interesting green specimens rather than feeling like you were at a wedding. To bring that feeling, it really helped that our models are an actual couple… and engaged, at that!
As I was wrapping up all the last minute details for the shoot, the male model called me one night and asked if I had a few minutes to chat through an idea he had. He wanted to surprise his fiancée onsite and really marry her at the shoot! I was so psyched and LOVED the idea. I, of course, ran it by all the vendors and the venue prior to giving him the green light. Everyone was so excited and loved the idea.
A styled editorial + a surprise wedding?! Yes, PLEASE!! Let’s see how it went down in the photos by Red Aspen Photography!
A greenery covered invitation + menu by Eventful Design Shop set the mood for the day.
All that greenery! That cozy lounge was created with pieces from Yonder Floral & Decor House.
Hello stunning dress by J. Mendel from Little White Dress!! Who else is obsessed with all those pleats?
Thomas shares Gwen and I were engaged for over 3 years and planned several versions of a wedding but could never seem to make all the pieces fit. We talked about eloping a few times and when this wedding shoot came about, Gwen joked about how we should surprise everyone and have someone marry us during the shoot. Well, instead of surprising everyone else, I kind of turned the tables on her. Everyone involved with the shoot made it truly special and even had a cake and champagne there to help us celebrate. Our plan now is to have a big celebration with our close friends and family, so we’ll see how long it takes us to make that one happen. Hopefully, not another 3 years.
Isn’t that backdrop amazing?
All the florals + greenery were done by the talented florist, Fawns Leap.
Gwen: My favorite memory from the day was when we where photographing the “ceremony scene” and Ashleigh said, “Hold on, there’s something missing,” and immediately after she mentioned this, I thought to myself that perhaps I ought to stick my butt out more… Fortunately, that wasn’t what was missing, but in fact, that was when our friends and our lovely daughter, Olive, walked into the building as a commencement for the surprise ceremony.
Thomas: My favorite memory of the day was seeing Gwen’s reaction when our daughter, Olive, walked into the hangar. Pure confusion. Later that night, I asked her about that moment and she said she thought our friends had just brought Olive by to see the end of the shoot. It wasn’t until I said something like “Are you ready to get married for real?” that she truly understood what was happening. Pretty classic. That moment had to have been a weird whirlwind of emotions for her.
Adina shares Their best friend came to ordain them, and other best friends and their daughter came for the surprise as well. It was beautiful, special, and so heart warming! And the bride was SO happy and surprised!! It was the perfect end to a smooth and flawless shoot!
Isn’t this the dreamiest tablescape?! Industrial meets greenery = LOVE
To top off the day, it was champagne + this gold brushed cake from Azucar Bakery.
How cool was that?! Can you imagine — modeling in a styled shoot and then having it turn into a wedding?! Unreal.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the talented team of vendors + way to go for pulling off the surprise!
