Hair Tutorial: Double Dutch Fishtail Pony with Fresh Flowers

Double Dutch Fishtail Pony

Today we are sharing a new take on the fishtail braid – a double dutch fishtail pony with flowers! This look is so perfect for a summer bridal shower, bachelorette party or a trip to be beach. The list is endless! We love that the fresh flowers add such a magical touch to this pretty updo. Thanks so much to Jill of Layered Vintage for sending this one over. Let’s see how Beauty by Stacey put this one together!

Step 1: Loosely curl your hair to add texture and bend. Then spray a texture wax like Kenra’s Air Grip Dry Wax to take fly aways and add a bit of grit. Find your fringe parting, then part your hair in 3 sections: 2 sections from your ears forward and 1 section for the ponytail (set your ponytail so it’s out of the way when you braid).

Step 2: Prep your sectioned hair with a texture spray (like Kenra’s Dry Texture Spray #6 or High Grip Spray #20) for added grip. (This step will help your braids pull due to the grit.)

Step 3: Start fishtail braiding the less heavy side of your parted fringe, starting towards the top of your forehead. Make sure you pick pieces up on both side as you go along, and braid inside out so the braids sits on top of your hair.

tip: Braids towards the direction you want your braids to end. This will ensure there are no lose pieces in the braid

Step 4: Once you are done with the smaller braid tie if off loosely. You can clip it out of the way, or place it on top of the ponytail.

Step 5: Repeat steps for the heavier side of your fringe.

Step 6: Once you are done with both, hold the braid at the end loosely to start pulling your braid. Working from the bottom to the top, start pulling your braids from the outside in, feathering as you go along, . (This step takes a lot of patience as you might have to go back a few times.)

Step 7: Wrap the end of the skinnier braid around the ponytail and pin in place. Repeat this step with the thicker braid.

tip: Grab a bobby pin and pin your thicker braid down throughout for better placement and hold
