Nancy Drew has been a beloved fictional character for over 90 years, with multiple actresses portraying the amateur teen sleuth on screen. The character originated in a book series and was written as the female counterpart to the popular Hardy Boys series. Nancy Drew’s first appearance was in a 1930 bestseller, which went on to span 175 novels.
Over the years, Nancy Drew has become a cultural icon, with the successful movie, video game, and TV show adaptations. Nancy lives with her father Carson Drew following her mother’s death and is known for her friendship with Bess Marvin and George Fayne. She typically has a boyfriend named Ned Nickerson in various versions of the story.

In 2019, The CW reimagined Nancy Drew’s story, with Kennedy McMann cast in the lead role of a version set in Horseshoe Bay, Maine. McMann was ecstatic about the opportunity to play the iconic fictional character, sharing her excitement on social media.
McMann portrayed Nancy Drew for four seasons and recently reflected on the lessons she learned from the character in an exclusive.

“[Nancy] has taught me so much. I started this show as a young woman. I was at a similar point in life of figuring out who am I and what am I doing here and how am I supposed to go about life? So it’s been really special to go on this journey of growth with her,” the New York native said. “I think I’ve learned so much bravery and boldness from her, and that it takes courage to pursue the right thing and it takes using your voice and being decisive and making old swings. I’ve definitely taken that from her.”
McMann also expressed her willingness to reprise the role if the right opportunity came along, stating that she could potentially see herself stepping into Nancy’s shoes again. While the future of the Nancy Drew series is uncertain, McMann expressed her love for her character and the show as a whole.
“I think we all had a beautiful time working on it and love our characters dearly. You never know what the future holds,” she said.
