Late Clueless star Brittany Murphy’s father has died at the age of 92, nearly a decade after his famous daughter passed away.
On Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, Brittany Murphy’s half-brother Jeff Bertolotti took to Facebook to announce that their father, Angelo Bertolotti, was going to pass on. Posting a photo of Murphy with their dad, he revealed that he and others had decided to take Angelo off of life support that afternoon. “There was just no possible way, short of a miracle, that he was able to roll out of this extensive set of health problems,” Jeff explained. “Anything short of letting him go would be cruel.”
Noting that his father had fought in World War II, had become a mortician in his early 20s, and had been involved in crime, he said, “He lived life by his own terms … often causing havoc all around him.” However, he noted that Antonio took responsibility for his actions, having served three prison sentences, totaling almost 12 years, throughout his life.
“RIP Pop’s,” Jeff concluded. “I’ll miss your crazy insane a**, forever.”
According to Radar Online, Antonio died in Los Angeles. A source told the publication that he had been “unconscious” for a “couple of months” and that “there were complications.”
Antonio’s passing comes nine years after Murphy died at the age of 32. As noted by E! News, Murphy was found unconscious in her bathroom in December 2009. The Los Angeles Coroner’s office concluded that her unexpected death was the result of “anemia, pneumonia and ‘multiple drug intoxication,'” and it was considered accidental.
“I was very shocked by it,” Angelo told E! News at the time. “I can’t believe it really. It happened so fast; I’m just trying to figure it all out right now. I’m very upset by it.”
He also refused to go to his Murphy’s funeral, saying, “I don’t want to see her that way.” He continued, “She’s a memory to me now. To me she’s off making a movie somewhere.”
According to Us Weekly, Antonio had a lab test his late daughter’s hair in 2013, and he claimed that the lab’s results suggested that Murphy had been poisoned.
