Television personality Kelly Ripa may be one of our favorite celebs, but not even fame can keep her from embarrassing her kids.

On Friday, March 15, 2019, the Live With Kelly and Ryan star took to Instagram to share a seemingly innocuous throwback pic of herself with husband Mark Consuelos … but not everyone was a fan of the PDA.

“#fbf 2007 Those hands,” Ripa wrote to her 2.3 million followers, captioning a photo of herself resting her hands on those of the Riverdale star, which were wrapped around her waist. She completed the simple caption with a red heart emoji.

According to an exchange captured by the CommentsByCelebs Instagram account, the married pair’s daughter Lola, 17, quickly took to the comments section, jokingly writing alongside a face-palm emoji, “Is the caption necessary?” To which Ripa quipped, “Gurl bye.”

“They look like great hands Kelly,” a fan wrote in the talk show host’s defense. Not realizing that the commenter in question had been Ripa’s own daughter, the person added, “youngestyung [Lola’s username] is just jealous.” Meanwhile, Ripa shared a crying-laughing emoji and explained, “No she’s just grossed out. That’s my daughter.”

Ripa, 48, and Consuelos, 47, have been happily married for 22 years and share two other children, sons Michael, 21, and Joaquin, 16. However, this isn’t the first time the married pair have been accused of sharing too much about their relationship. Readers may remember how the duo faced a bizarre round of body-shaming criticism on social media after posting a pic of Ripa wearing a bikini on the beach in March 2018.

Luckily, a number of the couple’s celeb pals thought the two exhibited total #RelationshipGoals this time around. According to E! News, actress Marisol Nichols, who plays Consuelos’ on-screen wife on the hit CW drama, commented on Ripa’s recent photo with, “Ridiculously hot couple!” Meanwhile, the talk show host’s former All My Children co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote, “But your arms!!!”

According to the Daily Mail, Ripa and Gellar, 41, went on to playfully reminisce about their days on the long-running soap opera last Friday when the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum posted a throwback pic of the two from the ’90s. “Sometimes when I see these old pics, I don’t even know where to start with the — What was I thinking?!? I mean what is my pinky even doing?? #flashbackfriday,” Gellar captioned the snap. “Well @kellyripa at least we co-ordinated our giant bang flip.”

In the comment section, Ripa wrote, “Did I ever had a good hair day?” To which Gellar quickly responded, “Hey I have always wanted my hair to look like you — it’s just perspective.”

For her part, Ripa previously opened up about how her kids tend to react to their parents’ unabashed levels of PDA in November 2018. At the time, she told Us Weekly, “So my daughter and my older son, if there’s PDA, they are disgusted. And by PDA I don’t mean … We’re not making out, but if there’s PDA, like, if Mark gives me a kiss, they’re like, ‘Ugh, ugh!’ I mean, really, that’s the reaction. They’re disgusted!”

Meanwhile, it sounds like their youngest son doesn’t seem to mind as much. “He’s like, ‘Aw, that’s so nice.’ He’s still sweet,” the proud mom went on, before jokingly adding, “They haven’t ruined him yet, the other two, but I know it’s coming. I’ve got, like, a year left and then he’ll be like, ‘Ew!'”

Candid social media snapshots and PDA aside, Ripa recently made headlines over a much more serious matter. On Wednesday, March 13, she took time to address the ongoing college admissions bribery scandal during a taping of Live With Kelly and Ryan. Dozens of parents, most infamously including Desperate Housewives alum Felicity Huffman and Fuller House star Lori Loughlin, have been accused of bribing their kids’ ways into elite colleges in this elaborate, nationwide scam.

“Let me tell you something,” Ripa said at the time (via Entertainment Tonight). “As a parent who has gone through this process twice so far, test-taking is a nightmare. It is so exhausting … for the student, for the parents, for everybody involved. Particularity if you are my kids’ tutor, I would think it would be exhausting for you as well.” She added, “You look at this and you go, ‘If you have the money to afford a tutor, you already have an advantage.'”

Of the shocking scheme itself, Ripa went on to say, “The whole thing is a shame and it’s robbing the kids the chance for them to achieve [getting in] on their own.” Well said. Earlier this week, movie star Julia Roberts echoed this sentiment, telling ITV’s Lorraine, “That to me is so sad, because I feel, from an outsider, that it says a little bit, ‘I don’t have enough faith in you.'”
