Leicester City’s summer signing, Jordan Ayew, has emerged as a key player for the team in recent weeks, playing a pivotal role in securing vital points in their battle against relegation. Initially, the reaction from Leicester fans regarding Ayew’s acquisition was lukewarm. Signed for £5 million, with the potential to rise to £8.5 million through add-ons, the 32-year-old forward was perceived as a hefty investment for a player whose goal-scoring record left much to be desired. Yet, as it turns out, his extensive experience in the Premier League has proven invaluable for the Foxes as they navigate a challenging season.

In the most recent outings against Southampton and Ipswich Town, Ayew has showcased his knack for being the right player at the right time. His contributions were instrumental in delivering three crucial points that could mean the difference between staying up or dropping down a division. This past week, Leicester found themselves in dire straits against Southampton, trailing 2-0 at halftime. However, a spirited second-half performance led to a remarkable turnaround, with Ayew coming off the bench to score a stunning late winner.

In what is now recorded as the latest ever Premier League winning goal for Leicester—scored at 97 minutes and 34 seconds—Ayew’s clever finish from a well-executed corner by Harry Winks sent shockwaves through the stadium and allowed the Foxes to leave St. Mary’s with a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

Just days later, Leicester faced Ipswich Town in a similarly tense encounter. Again, they found themselves behind, battling against ten men after the opposition had a player sent off. With time slipping away, Ayew was called upon as a substitute. He almost made an immediate impact, narrowly missing an equalizer when his clever chip was heroically cleared off the line. However, the resilient forward refused to let that setback deter him. In the dying moments of the game, he again found himself in the right place at the right time and slotted home an equalizer in the 94th minute, sending the away fans into a frenzy and demonstrating his knack for clutch performances.

Ayew’s rise as Leicester’s impact substitute has raised questions about his role within the squad. While he undoubtedly has the talent and desire to start games, his style of play may not fit seamlessly into manager Steve Cooper’s current tactics. The Foxes have adopted a formation that emphasizes speed and agility on the wings, making players like Mavididi the preferred choice for those positions. This has led to a noticeable concern about Ayew’s energy levels when he starts matches, sometimes leaving the team vulnerable defensively.

Nonetheless, if Mavididi’s performance does not improve, Cooper may have to reconsider his lineup. The pressing need to leverage Ayew’s proven ability to turn games around could force the manager to adjust his tactics. After all, in football, a manager’s primary responsibility is to harness the strengths of all his players to secure the best possible results.

As the season progresses, discussions surrounding Jordan Ayew’s role at Leicester City remain a hot topic. His impressive ability to deliver in crucial moments has not only earned him respect among his teammates but has also ignited hope among fans. If this pattern continues, Leicester City may have uncovered a hidden gem that could play a significant role in their quest for survival in the Premier League.

With the stakes higher than ever, Ayew’s experience and composure in front of goal might just prove decisive as Leicester navigates the remainder of the season, aiming to secure their place in the top tier of English football. His journey from a doubted signing to a fan-favorite impact player serves as a reminder that sometimes, the best contributions come from unexpected places.
