The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, has begun sanctioning students of the institution suspected to be cult members and those who dress indecently.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Cele Njoku, said the institution’s zero tolerance for acts that do not promote academic excellence and moral sanity had raised the academic standard of the institution.
Njoku spoke when the newly inaugurated members of the institution’s governing council paid her a visit.
The rector stressed that undergraduates who engaged in cultism, examination malpractices, indecent dressing and other behaviours that were forbidden on the campus would be sanctioned immediately.
She said, “Our academic standard has remained high because appropriate measures have been put in place to protect the students as well as to curb nefarious activities of miscreants within the campus.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the polytechnic, Edwin Ogunbor, who led the delegation, said findings by the council showed that the management of the institution had adequately managed the funding of projects and facilities on the campus.
Ogunbor stated that the council was ensuring that the welfare of the students and the staff members were improved.
“We will encourage the management to make the welfare of the students and staff a top priority,” he said.
