Retired Military officers of Ekiti State origin, who retired willingly from the Nigerian Military after prosecuting the civil war of 1967 -1970, have actually attracted President Muhammadu Buhari to start payment of pension to members to save them from hardship and unforeseen death.

They revealed is sorry that over 60 of their members out of the 240 at the preliminary phase, had actually passed away due to bad medical conditions with over 70 suffering serious disorders without monetary assistance to resolve their circumstances.

Resolving reporters in Ado Ekiti on Thursday under the aegis of Voluntarily Retired Military Officers, 1978-1979, Ekiti chapter, its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Bello Oseni, prompted President Buhari to honor his 2015 promise to extend the payment of pension to all retired officers that take part in the civil war.

Oseni valued the President for remembering them in 2015 upon rising the throne of governance, after 36 years of disregard by succeeding military and democratic federal governments.

He stated President Buhari having actually been chosen in 2015 summoned members to Abuja and advised the Military Pensions Board to validate their files, where they were accredited to be genuine military officers.

“But ever since, we have actually not heard anything once again. We applaud President Muhammadu Buhari for remembering us after 4 years of disregard, however, we appeal that this promise needs to be carried out in due course.

“We began this battle with 240 members, today we are 180 with about 70 of nursing serious disorders and just hoping to overcome.

“We were at the battleground for over 3 years. We defended the unity of this country. We kept Nigeria one, and we were worthy of being looked after.

“We have no remorse serving our fatherland, however, we are shocked that those who combated a country one and rescue it from disintegration might be treated in this manner. Assisting us at this phase will send out a signal of patriotism to Nigerians since all we did run out of patriotic spirit.

“But our company believes in the stability of President Buhari. He is a retired Military officer with a human face. He understood what it indicates for someone to eliminate a civil war. He comprehends the language of war.

“It was since of President Buhari’s enthusiastic spirit that stimulated him to welcome us to Abuja in 2015 as an honor. We plead that he satisfies all his pledges to us so that we can gain the fruits of our labor.

“We hope that Nigeria stays together so that the labor of our starting dads and war heroes, including us will not fail”, he stated.
