Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos have warned against the imposition of candidates on members by some elements within the party ahead of the oncoming local government elections in the state.
Making the call during a meeting of stakeholders during the week, chieftains of the party in Agege warned that any such move would go against the guidelines and create problems within the APC in the community.
Speaking to journalists during the meeting, a former Chairman of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, Taofeek Adaranijo, said that the meeting followed a directive from the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for them to conduct peaceful primaries in their different communities.
He said, “What we are doing today is in line with what our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asked us to do for a peaceful, free and fair election of candidates of our great party.
“Although, we have two consensus chairmanship aspirants for Agege Local Government and Orile Agege LCDA, we are using this platform to state that primary elections for the party must hold this weekend. We will never support any form of imposition of candidates on us.”
While calling on members of the party in the town to shun activities contrary to the directives of its leaders, Chairman of the APC in Orile Agege, Sunday Ajayi, said that they were committed to a peaceful process.
He said, “We do not want imposition of candidates which could trigger crisis in our great party. Those trying to force their candidates on us should shelve the idea.”
