Oyo State, Nigeria – The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced new dates for its primary election, leading up to the highly anticipated local government election in the state. The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has fixed April of next year for the local government election.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the APC revealed a slight adjustment in the schedule of its primary election for chairmanship and councilorship aspirants. The change was deemed necessary due to the overwhelming number of expressions of interest from party members.

Olawale Sadare, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, explained the rationale behind the adjustment in a statement made available to Wowplus. He stated that the primary, originally scheduled for Thursday, will now take place on Friday (August 25) and Monday (August 28).

To ensure a smooth and efficient process, the party has decided to split the primary schedule into two parts. This Friday, the exercise will be conducted in all the wards and local government areas (LGAs) in both the Oyo Central and Oyo North Senatorial districts. The following Monday, it will be the turn of the 99 wards and nine local government councils in Oyo South.

Sadare emphasized the competence of the aspirants, as reported by the screening committees. “We have competent aspirants in all the 351 wards and 33 LGAs; this indicates that APC remains the most popular party in the state,” he stated confidently.

The decision to split the primary schedule is a strategic move by the party. It allows for a more focused and organized approach, ensuring that each district receives the attention it deserves. By conducting the primary in two phases, the APC aims to streamline the process and provide equal opportunities for all aspirants.

The upcoming local government election in Oyo State is highly anticipated, as it will determine the leadership at the grassroots level. The APC, as the ruling party in the state, is determined to maintain its popularity and secure victory in the election.
