In a surprising turn of events, some influential chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who were once members of the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), have come forward to demand inclusion in the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This demand comes amidst speculation and anticipation surrounding the formation of Tinubu’s administration.

The APC, which currently holds power in Nigeria, is the result of a merger between several prominent opposition political parties, including the defunct CPC and the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), leading up to the 2015 general elections. This merger was instrumental in the defeat of the then-incumbent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a historic election.

The former CPC members, who have played significant roles in the growth and success of the APC, believe that their inclusion in Tinubu’s government is not only fair but also essential for the party’s continued progress. They argue that just as many defunct ACN leaders were appointed as ministers and given top board positions during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, it is expected that Tinubu would extend the same courtesy to the leaders of the defunct CPC.

“We acknowledge that they are all competent hands with rich qualifications and extensive experience. We believe that they will assist the president to push policies and lead reforms that will take Nigeria to greater heights. They should justify the trust the President has reposed in them,” said one of the former CPC members.

Highlighting the crucial roles played by Tinubu and Buhari in the formation of the APC, the former CPC members emphasize that despite the merger, the various interests they represented before the consolidation are still relevant. They argue that as an experienced politician, Tinubu understands the importance of satisfying all interests in politics.

The former CPC members also point out that their support for Tinubu during the elections was unwavering, and they believe that their inclusion in his administration would be a testament to their loyalty and dedication. They express confidence in the president’s ability to select competent individuals from both the North and South regions of the country for key appointments.

“We have competent members both in the North and South whom the President can take up for appointments. We mobilized heavily for President Tinubu during the elections. Our belief in his capacity was not in doubt. We, therefore, want to join his team to bring Renewed Hope to Nigerians. We recall that the President promised to run an inclusive administration,” one of the former CPC members stated.

As news of this demand spreads, political analysts and commentators are closely watching how President Tinubu will respond. The inclusion of former CPC members in his government could potentially strengthen the party’s unity and consolidate its power. However, it remains to be seen whether Tinubu will heed their request and prioritize inclusivity in his administration.

With the formation of Tinubu’s government expected to take place in the coming weeks, the spotlight is firmly on the president and his decision-making process. As the nation eagerly awaits the unveiling of his administration, the demand from former CPC members adds another layer of intrigue and anticipation to the political landscape.
