nigeria news obey court order dont interfere with algon rural projects huriwa warns governors

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA has asked Nigerian Governors to obey court orders directing them not to interfere with the construction of the community based public health care centers by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON.

The group’s advice follows the court judgment regarding ALGON’s project idea to build functional health care centers across Nigeria.

In a statement by it National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko on Friday, the group said based on the court ruling, the anticipated construction of public health care centers must not be interfered with by the governors.

“We commend the verdict but also ask the Governors forum to refrain from the sinister plots to undermine the projects because of their selfish interests,” HURIWA added.

“Our interest is centered on the essence of this matter which speaks to the issue of autonomy for local councils of Nigeria, in line with section 7 of the constitution of 1999 as amended.

”We strongly canvass the implementation and completion of these projects that would significantly boost the healthcare of the over 60 million rural dwellers.”

HURIWA further asked President Muhammadu Buhari to proceed with the revolutionary program of conceding constitutional autonomy to Local Government Areas in the country, insisting that this is the surest way to guarantee employment opportunities for millions of rural dwellers.

The rights group noted further that autonomy will open up the rural communities to aggressive infrastructural development.

The group added, “We are by this medium asking the Governors forum not to sabotage the Primary healthcare initiatives of ALGON, as that will be tantamount to exposing the lives of the rural dwellers to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.”

HURIWA promised to write the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum to highlight the “essence of permitting the full implementation of the Rural Health Projects.
