Inter Milan CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, has spoken about the profitable deal that saw Andre Onana move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The Italian side sold the Cameroonian goalkeeper for a base price of €51 million (£43.8 million), just one season after he arrived as a free agent from Ajax.

Despite selling Onana, Marotta has refused to rule out the possibility of re-signing the goalkeeper from the Premier League side in the future. Inter Milan have since secured Yan Sommer as his replacement.

Speaking to reporters, Marotta said, “I can’t predict the future, but in football, anything can happen. For sure, it was a great chapter for Onana and for us. It was also a successful deal to sign him for free and sell for that money.”

Since joining Manchester United in the summer, Onana has conceded 19 goals in 11 matches, with the team languishing in 10th position on the league table.

The profitable deal has been a source of pride for Inter Milan, who have made a significant profit from the sale of the goalkeeper. The club’s CEO has also hinted that they could consider re-signing Onana in the future, should the opportunity arise.

Marotta’s comments come as Inter Milan prepare for their upcoming match against Sassuolo in the Serie A. The Italian side will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the league table, having won their last five matches in a row.

The sale of Onana has been a significant boost to Inter Milan’s finances, as the club looks to invest in new players and strengthen their squad for the future. The Italian side will be hoping to continue their success in the Serie A and compete in European competitions in the coming seasons.

The profitable deal has also highlighted the importance of shrewd transfer dealings in modern football. With the financial pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic, many clubs have had to be creative in their transfer strategies, as they look to balance their books and remain competitive on the pitch.

The success of Inter Milan’s deal with Manchester United is a testament to the club’s ability to identify and sign talented players, as well as their financial acumen in the transfer market.

As the football season continues, fans will be eagerly anticipating the next transfer window, as clubs look to strengthen their squads and compete for trophies. Inter Milan will undoubtedly be looking to continue their success in the transfer market, as they seek to build a squad capable of challenging for the Serie A title and European honours.
