2023: Shehu Sani appeals to Northern, Southern govs not to divide Nigeria

Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has reacted to the 19 northern governors’ condemnation of the resolution of their southern counterparts’ zoning of the presidency for 2023.

In May 2021, the Southern Governors Forum convened in Lagos State, where they declared that Nigeria’s next president should come from the country’s southern region.

However, at their meeting on Monday in Kaduna, the 19 northern governors expressed their opposition to the decision of their southern counterparts on the zoning of the presidency in 2023, claiming that it was unconstitutional

Senator Shehu Sani, in a message posted on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, pleaded with both political parties not to tear the country apart for the sake of their personal political ambitions.

The Northern and Southern Governors, he continued, “are urged not to tear and burn this country in their personal quest for power and resources.”

Terrorists and unknown gunmen are killing and kidnapping our people on a daily basis, poverty is ravaging our people, industries have shut down, and millions of our youths are out of work,” the president said.

“Rather than eradicating sectional and ethnic sentiments, why not unite and address the major and common issues that are threatening the peace, lives, and well-being of the vast majority of our people?” says the author.

Reno Omokri believes that power should remain in the north until southerners learn to work together.

After the election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, Reno Omokri stated that he wanted power to remain in the north until 2023 in order to teach southerners about the importance of unity.

Omokri made the statement in response to the Northern Governors’ rejection of the power transfer to the south.

Remember that the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) had stated that the south’s insistence on producing the next president of Nigeria was in violation of the country’s constitution.

Following a meeting in Kaduna State on Monday, they issued a statement outlining their position.

They expressed their displeasure with the position of their colleagues in the south in a communique signed by Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, who also serves as the Forum’s chairman.

Taking notice of the developments, Omokri responded to them by sending a tweet on Tuesday via his Twitter handle, claiming that the southerners had banded together with northerners in 2015 to betray an innocent southerner.

“I support the Northern Governors’ rejection of the power transfer to the South,” he wrote on Twitter. Allow power to remain in the North after 2023 in order to teach Southerners the importance of working together.

“The Presidency should remain with the North until the Southerners learn to work together,” Omokri continued. Traitors are, by their very nature, untrustworthy. If they are capable of betraying someone so close to them to you, they are also capable of betraying you to others. Take, for example, FFK. Such a characteristic can never be found in a Northerner! Tueh!

Meanwhile, the majority of Nigerians are opposed to the Northern region producing the country’s next president.

In this context, the Southeast has been clamoring to be the region that will produce Nigeria’s next president.
