There is a belief that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to sign a top-level striker in the upcoming summer transfer window, which will be almost a year after the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. Last summer, the English international left Spurs in a deal that could be worth up to €120 million ($131 million), and so far, no adequate replacement has been brought in at N17.

Despite losing Harry Kane, coach Ange Postecoglou has ensured that Tottenham continue to progress on the field. However, the Australian coach is eager to strengthen his attacking options. Spurs captain Heung-min Son has been playing in a central position for most of the ongoing season and has been in excellent form, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 28 games across all competitions. Additionally, Tottenham has signed German striker Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window, who has been successful playing on the left flank.

Why should Tottenham not put all eggs in one basket

While signing a marquee forward is necessary, Tottenham have to ensure they don’t overrely on his services. Previously, during the Harry Kane era, while it reaped massive dividends, it got difficult for Tottenham when the England international was not on the pitch. The struggles without Kane, at times, proved to be a difference in critical fixtures. While there also is a possibility that a new striker will need time to settle into the life in the Premier League.

This by no means implies that Spurs should not sign a big-money marquee striker who scores goals left, right, and center. Daniel Levy & Co. needs to ensure that the club doesn’t struggle to have a whiff at the goal when that striker is missing through injury, suspension, or suspension or whatsoever.

The Whites from North London have an option to sign Timo Werner on a permanent transfer in a £15 million bargain deal this summer. The former Chelsea striker has done well since moving to North London and could be a cheap option to ensure that the club has a dependable back-up in place for the big-money striker.
