Super Falcons receive boost ahead of friendlies against Haiti and New Zealand

Antalya, Turkey – The Nigerian women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have received a boost with the arrival of 10 more players at their training camp in Antalya, Turkey. The team is preparing for friendly matches against Haiti and New Zealand ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The new arrivals include Asisat Oshoala, a forward for Barcelona Femeni, Atletico Madrid’s Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Leicester City defender Ashleigh Plumptre. With the arrival of the new players, there are now 19 players at the team’s Sense De Luxe Hotel base in Antalya.

The Super Falcons are expected to play Haiti at the Emir Sports Complex on Friday, before taking on New Zealand at the Mardan Sports Complex next week Tuesday. The matches have been lined up to put the team in proper shape for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Randy Waldrum, the team’s coach, expressed his delight at the arrival of the new players, saying that they would bring more quality and depth to the squad. He also praised the commitment and dedication of the players who have been in camp since the start of the training sessions.

“We are happy to have the new players in camp. They are quality players who will add more depth to the squad. We are also impressed with the commitment and dedication of the players who have been in camp since we started training,” Waldrum said.

The 19 players in camp include Tosin Demehin, Rofiat Imuran, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Ashleigh Plumptre, Gift Monday, Asisat Oshoala, Ngozi Okobi, Toni Payne, Christy Uchiebe, Rasheedat Ajibade, Yewande Balogun, Regina Otu, Esther Okoronkwo, Onome Ebi, Etim Inyene, Abiodun Deborah, Halimatu Ayinde, Vivian Ikechukwu, and Glory Ogbonna.

The Super Falcons are one of the most successful women’s national teams in Africa, having won the African Women’s Cup of Nations a record 11 times. They have also represented Africa at every edition of the Women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991.

The team will be looking to make a mark at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. They have been drawn in Group C alongside Brazil, Australia, and Italy.

The Super Falcons have a rich history of producing top-quality players who have gone on to excel at the highest level of the game. Asisat Oshoala, who recently joined Barcelona Femeni, is one of the most successful Nigerian players, having won the African Women’s Player of the Year award four times.

The team’s captain, Onome Ebi, has also had a distinguished career, having played in four World Cup tournaments and winning the African Women’s Cup of Nations four times.
