In 2020, the family of the late musician Tom Petty sent a cease-and-desist letter to President Donald Trump after he used Petty’s song “I Won’t Back Down” during one of his rallies. Fast forward to the present, Lara Trump found herself at the center of a similar controversy when she released her own cover of the iconic song, reigniting the conflict.

Surprisingly, Lara’s rendition of “I Won’t Back Down” resonated well with her supporters. Forbes reported that her cover secured the No. 10 spot on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart in October 2023. Not content with just one hit, Lara followed up with another release – an acoustic version of the same track.

However, the second release was not without its drama. Lara publicly accused streaming services of “shadow-banning” her music, claiming that Spotify had not approved her acoustic single without providing a valid explanation. She took to social media, expressing her frustration, “No surprise here — suppression of my newest acoustic single, ‘I Won’t Back Down,’ has already begun. Spotify hasn’t yet ‘approved’ it (for reasons they cannot explain) but, you can find it everywhere else!!” Despite Lara’s claims, both the acoustic and original cover songs are available on Spotify.
