In a conversation with People in 2020, Majors spoke about his desire for Ella to receive a well-rounded education that includes an accurate understanding of American history. “She has to understand that it’s actually not ‘Black history’— it’s American history,” Majors said. “The way it’s taught now, it’s honestly the Jim Crow system of separate but equal.” The actor expressed frustration with the limited scope of teaching that often accompanies discussions of Black figures in history. “We’ll give it one month, 12 pages in the history book … we’ll talk about Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, MLK, then we’ll give you a little quiz about it,” he said.

Majors’ role as a father has also influenced his approach to choosing projects. As he explained to Insider, he wants to make his daughter proud and ensure that his work communicates values he can stand behind. “I just want to make her proud and do things that she could look at and go, ‘Yeah, that’s the way that goes — I understand why he did that,'” Majors said. “Or at some point, she will watch [my] films and then she’ll see Regina King and she’ll see Zazie Beetz.”

Despite his busy schedule, Majors makes time to spend quality time with Ella. In an interview with Mr. Porter, he spoke about their shared love of shopping and reading books. “Roald Dahl, ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events.’ I have her memorize poetry – Mary Oliver. She has a whole section about dogs,” he said. “And my girl has her own dog, a cockapoo.”
