In a recent revelation, Nigerian music sensation Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, better known as Spyro, opened up about the challenges he faced on his path to musical success. The 22-year-old artist shared his remarkable journey from facing familial opposition to selling recharge cards in order to fund his studio time.

During a candid conversation on the popular podcast “Tea With Tay,” Spyro disclosed that his father had been unsupportive of his artistic aspirations. Having previously encountered resistance when pursuing a career as a fine artist, Spyro faced further disapproval when he expressed his desire to pursue music.

Reflecting on his tumultuous relationship with his father, Spyro recounted, “Being a pastor, my dad never wanted me to do music. I was a fine artist before. I could draw so well but for one reason or the other, he stopped me from doing that. Then I started music. He also wanted to stop me from doing that, then I got rebellious.”

He emphasized the necessity of hustling to cover his expenses and secure precious studio time, all while acknowledging the support of his parents in providing for his basic needs.

Spyro’s perseverance and dedication eventually paid off when his breakout hit, “Who Is Your Guy,” gained widespread acclaim in 2023. The song’s remix featuring Tiwa Savage went on to clinch the prestigious title of “Best Collaboration of the Year” at the 2023 Headies Awards, propelling Spyro into the spotlight and solidifying his status as a rising star in the Nigerian music scene.
