President Muhammadu Buhari hailed his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, during his address at the ECOWAS summit in Ghana.

The President joined other Heads of State of Government for the mid-year statutory meeting of the regional bloc.

The Nigerian leader commended Jonathan for his efforts toward the restoration of stability in Mali.

Jonathan, an ECOWAS Special Envoy and Mediator to Mali, presented a report on his latest working visit.

Mali did not attend the Accra event due to suspension from the body.

Buhari urged ECOWAS to remain engaged with all stakeholders for a peaceful resolution of the situation in the country.

The President described Jonathan as an “astute mediator” and congratulated him “for his untiring efforts thus far.”

“I encourage him to sustain these efforts to ensure that the transition is completed as scheduled,” Buhari added.
