Nigerian legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has said Nigeria’s most important game at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is their next match in the Round of 16.

Okocha said this after Nigeria defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their Group D AFCON final tie on Wednesday night.

Recall that two goals from Umar Sadiq and William Troost-Ekong gave Augustine Eguavoen’s men the victory against Guinea-Bissau.

Nigeria will face the third-placed team in Group E containing Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Algeria or one of Gambia, Mali, or Tunisia in Group F in the Round of 16 fixtures this weekend.

Prior to the Guinea-Bissau match, the Super Eagles had defeated Egypt and Sudan in their first two games at the AFCON.

“He [Augustine Eguavoen] has got a great team of not just eleven good players but also twenty-something good players that he can rely on,” Okocha told SuperSport.

“There is nothing better for the coach than giving a player a chance and him paying you back by restoring his confidence in you.

“I think it’s good to see that we are flying high, but the game today is gone, the most important one is the next one and we can only justify our performances so far if we go on and win the next one.”
