Ex-VP says US is biggest overseas investor in Nigeria trading with over $6.1billion
Atiku Abubakar has said the United States is the largest overseas investor in Nigeria trading with over $6.1 billion.
The ex-Vice President to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo for eight years, said Nigeria and the US share same values of free trade, education and democracy.
Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has said the United States is the largest overseas investor in Nigeria trading with over $6.1 billion.
Atiku made this disclosure on Twitter while welcoming the U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson during his short visit to Nigeria and President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also said this investment translates into jobs in factories, farms and offices in Nigeria.
“The US is largest overseas investor in Nigeria. Trade is over ₦ 2.1 trillion (US$6.1bn) which translates into jobs in factories, farms and offices in our nation. Stronger Nigeria-US relations means more jobs to help get Nigeria working again,” Atiku tweeted.
Continuing, the ex-Vice President to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo for eight years, said Nigeria and the US share same values of free trade, education and democracy.
“I welcome US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Nigeria. Our people share the same values of free trade, education, democracy and security for all.
“Nigerians deserve a more secure future. Nigeria and the US must do more to combat extremism and terror. Our partnership with the US should be built on more cooperation. It is good to see US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Nigeria.”
Atiku is currently eyeing the position of President Muhammadu Buhari come 2019 following his defection from the ruling political party, All Progressive Congress to the leading opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party in late 2017.
Tillerson was in Nigeria on Monday evening, March 12, 2018, to briefly meet with President Muhammadu Buhari before heading back to US after a trip cut short.
