Selena Gomez is empowering anybody who’s discovering who they are after a breakup. The music video for her brand-new tune, “De Una Vez,” opens with her resting on a pink silk bed, outfitted in a lovely flower gown with a big, radiant heart-shaped pendant on the bust. It’s perhaps a nod to an individual who “uses their heart on their sleeve.”
The tune’s opening explains the recovery procedure after separating from a fan. Gomez sings, “It does not injure like in the past, no/ The injury of your love recovered.” The chorus echoes a belief of carrying on and being more powerful after the destruction from another. “Once and for all/ I’m more powerful alone, (I am more powerful alone)/ It is that I do not be sorry for the past,” the pop star sings. “I understand that the time on your side cut my wings/ But now this chest is bulletproof.”
In the two-minute video, Gomez strolls through a little house filled with a past. Towards completion of the video, the house’s product ownerships are retreated through the ceiling, leaving an empty housing. In her last lyrics, Gomez sings, “I do not feel you here any longer/ I do not feel you any longer/ You never understood/ You didn’t understand how to value me” as she leaves your home and the words, “Baila Conmigo,” which equates to “Dance With Me.” If this is any indicator of what’s to come from the star, fans can eagerly anticipate this brand-new instruction.
