Resignation of APC National Chairman Long Overdue, Says Former Governorship Aspirant

In a surprising turn of events, Abdullahi Adamu resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The resignation has been met with mixed reactions, with some applauding the move while others believe it was long overdue.

One individual who falls into the latter category is Hon Bernard Mikko, a former governorship aspirant of the APC in Rivers State. Mikko has accused Adamu of working against the emergence of President Bola Tinubu both before and after the presidential primaries.

During an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show program, Mikko expressed his belief that Adamu should have resigned immediately after the inauguration of President Tinubu. According to Mikko, Adamu’s lack of support for Tinubu during the election and his preference for other candidates demonstrated his lack of democratic values.

Mikko argued that as the national chairman of the party, Adamu should have shown neutrality and supported the party’s chosen candidate. However, he claims that Adamu instead tried to build consensus around his preferred candidate, who ultimately did not win.

“What was expected of him at that point was for him to throw in the towel and say, ‘Look, I preferred someone else but the person didn’t win’,” Mikko stated. “But he worked against the emergence of Bola Tinubu. When Tinubu emerged as the preferred candidate, he also worked against his candidature. Now that our president has won, he has no choice.”

Mikko believes that Adamu’s resignation is a positive development for the party and will foster unity. He argues that Adamu needed to step down to align the party with the programs and policies of the government and gain the support of the party stakeholders.

“From the beginning, he has shown that he is not a Democrat in the spirit of party politics,” Mikko added. “As chairman of the party, having emerged as the national chairman of the party, he should have shown neutrality from the beginning, but he never showed it.”

While Mikko’s comments reflect his personal opinion, they highlight the internal divisions within the APC. The resignation of a high-ranking party official like Adamu raises questions about the party’s unity and its ability to effectively govern.

As news of Adamu’s resignation spreads, it remains to be seen how this will impact the APC and its future. Will this be a turning point for the party, leading to greater unity and a renewed focus on the goals of the party? Or will it deepen the existing divisions and create further challenges for the APC?

Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: the resignation of the APC National Chairman has certainly shaken up the political landscape. As the party navigates this new chapter, it will be crucial for its leaders to prioritize unity and work towards the common goal of advancing the interests of the Nigerian people.

With the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, the APC now faces a critical juncture in its history. The party must seize this opportunity to address any internal divisions and present a united front to the Nigerian people. Only by doing so can the APC regain the trust and support of its members and effectively govern the country.

As the dust settles and the party regroups, all eyes will be on the APC to see how it handles this transition. Will it be able to rise above the challenges and emerge stronger than ever? Or will it succumb to further internal strife and lose its standing in the political arena?

The coming days and weeks will undoubtedly be crucial for the APC. The decisions made and the actions taken during this time will shape the future of the party and have far-reaching implications for the Nigerian political landscape.

The true test of the APC’s strength and resilience lies ahead, and the Nigerian people will be watching closely.
