Reality TV personality shares safety concerns and sparks mixed reactions online

Pere Egbi advice on living arrangements has stirred conversation online after the former Big Brother Naija housemate said it is not okay for young single women to live alone, especially in Nigeria.

The reality TV star shared his thoughts on X, where he suggested that young women who are single should consider living with someone rather than staying by themselves. According to Pere, having a friend or family member around offers companionship and, more importantly, a sense of safety.

“Personal advice to young women living in Nigeria who are single, don’t live alone by yourself. Have someone stay with you always. A friend, family member/s. It’s never a cool thing to live alone as a woman,” he wrote.

His statement quickly drew attention, with many users questioning the motivation behind the advice. One follower asked whether his comments were influenced by the recent death of female singer Ifunanya Nwangene, who reportedly passed away after suffering a snake bite in her Abuja residence.

In response, Pere replied simply, “everything,” suggesting that multiple factors informed his opinion, not just that particular incident.

He went on to clarify that his view was not meant to single out women alone. According to him, living alone is generally not ideal, regardless of gender, though he acknowledged that women may face additional risks.

As expected, the comments section became divided. Some users agreed with Pere Egbi, pointing to safety concerns, loneliness, and emergency situations. Others pushed back, arguing that independence should not be discouraged and that the focus should instead be on improving security and personal safety awareness.

While Pere’s remarks were framed as personal advice rather than a rule, they have added to an ongoing debate about independence, safety, and social expectations for young adults in Nigeria.
