At the intersection of Nigerian music and Chinese cinema, Crown Uzama, better known by his stage name Shallipopi, has captivated audiences with his unique moniker. In a recent interview with esteemed British media personality Madame Joyce, the 22-year-old singer shed light on the origins of his stage name and his distinct approach to music.

Shallipopi revealed that his stage name was directly inspired by the 1994 Chinese kung fu comedy film, Shaolin Popey. While recounting his journey to finding the perfect stage name, he shared that he initially considered using his birth name, Crown, and experimented with nicknames like Drip Face. However, it was the serendipitous discovery of Shaolin Popey that ultimately sparked the creative inspiration for his now-iconic alias.

During his conversation with Madame Joyce, Shallipopi reminisced about stumbling upon the movie during his formative years. He humorously recalled how his mother intended to purchase a Tom and Jerry CD for the family, only to find that it contained the movie Shaolin Popey when they played it in their DVD player. This chance encounter with the film left an indelible impression on Shallipopi, ultimately influencing the trajectory of his artistic identity.
