A High Court in Imo State, on Friday, stated the election of the 27 LGA chairmen carried out by ex-governor Rochas Okorocha, on the 25th day of August 2018 as null and void and of no impact whatsoever.
Justice E.F Njemanze, while providing judgment in the matter in between Innocent Nmezi and others versus the Imo State government, bought all the previous 27 LGA chairmen to go back to the state government all wages and allowances paid to them before they were liquified.
The judge ruled that they inhabited those positions unlawfully since their elections were carried out contrary to the extant electoral laws of Imo State.
Aggrieved by the elections, Innocent Nmezi and others had actually brought an action versus the State Government, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (IMSIEC) and the 27 Local Government Chairmen supposedly chosen by the previous State Government under Owelle Rochas Okorocha, now the Senator representing Orlu zone at a loss chamber.
