Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has expressed his outrage over the assault on his Commissioner for Women Affairs, Olubunmi Osadahun, by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 1, Akoko South West Local Council Area, Olumide Awolumate. The incident, which was caught on video and went viral over the weekend, showed the chairman hitting the commissioner with a chair during an altercation over the distribution of palliative.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Governor Akeredolu condemned the assault and emphasized that acts of violence would not be tolerated by his administration. He vowed to utilize the full force of the law to ensure that the culprit is brought to justice.

“We remind the public that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, VAPP, law prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishments for offenders,” said Akeredolu. “There are better ways to seek remediation or express concerns where necessary.”

The governor also assured the public that his administration would continue to prioritize the distribution of palliatives to the most vulnerable in the communities. He asked for understanding and support in this endeavor.
