Everton are in advanced talks to sign Burnley centre-back Michael Keane, Sky sources understand.

Discussions between the two clubs are progressing well with both sides hopeful a deal can be done.

Everton identified Keane – who is in the last year of his current Burnley deal – as their primary defensive target this summer.

Keane joined Burnley from Manchester United for £2million in January 2015, four years after signing his first professional contract at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old is believed to be valued at around £25m, but Manchester United are understood to be due 25 per cent of any transfer fee for their former defender.

Keane played in 35 of Burnley’s 38 Premier League matches last season, missing the Clarets’ last three games of the 2016/17 campaign through injury.

The defender’s fine form last season saw him drafted into the England squad as a replacement for the injured Glen Johnson in October. He made his international debut in a 1-0 defeat to Germany in March.

Everton have already completed deals this summer for England U21 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Dutch international Davy Klaassen.

Sky sources understand The Toffees have already secured a deal to sign Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru and are also thought to be closing in on QPR teenager Josh Bowler.
