Lagos fans are set to be thrilled by the Super Eagles on Sunday in a commemorative match to celebrate Lagos at 50, organisers have said.

The match will see Lagos-born Eagles players led by China-based Obafemi Martins face national team players from other states  at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Anthony Adeyinka, Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode,  said the Eagles stars had  confirmed their availability for the match.

He added that arrangements had been put in place for the players expected for the game  to arrive in Lagos after their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Bafana Bafana in Uyo on Saturday.

“We have spoken to all the players and they have all assured us that they will be available, we have also made necessary arrangement to facilitate the trip from Uyo to Lagos for the match, so we are set,” Adeyinka said.

“We are doing this to celebrate Lagos at 50 because we know the value of sports development in Lagos and the role football has played.”

Kayode Olanrewaju, Martins, Ogenyi Onazi, Dele Alampasu, Sylvester Igboun, Gbolahan Salami, Elderson Echiejile and Nnamdi Oduamadi are expected to feature in the game.

A novelty match between Stationery Stores and Young Strikers Academy will set the day underway in the afternoon before the Eagles’ match in the evening.
